In the past few years we have seen an explosion of online annual and CSR reports and the emergence of social media as a channel for shareholder communications.

For many companies the online channel rather than print now leads the reporting process driven in equal measure by regulatory encouragement (Companies Act 2006), audiences’ appetite for the digital medium and the expectation of cost savings.  But how significantly is technology changing the shareholder communications landscape? Do the audience participation statistics really stack up? Do retail shareholders really use or trust electronic communications? Do companies really save money?

Our recent Breakfast Briefing, chaired by Further’s Managing partner, Patrick Eastwood, explored where companies should be investing their budgets for maximum return, the different approaches adopted in UK and Europe, the current and future role of social media and the challenges and opportunities for businesses.

The speakers included Patrick Gonsalves, Deputy company secretary of Barclays, Bryan Smith, Digital corporate communications specialist ex Rio Tinto, Thomas Rosenmayr, CEO and digital lead at Nexxar and Julian Lewis Insight consultant at Precise.

The video below gives you a snapshot of the views of the speakers.
